Harris Corp. has delivered the first four satellite communications terminals to the U.S. Army for the intended backbone of the branch’s communications and missile defense systems.
The company is the prime contractor for the Modernization of Enterprise Terminal program and is responsible for replacing up to 80 strategic satellite communications terminals around the world, Harris said Monday.
This delivery comprised of two large X-Ka-band terminals and two transportable terminals, which are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, vibrations and electromagnetic pulses.
Each terminal holds the Defense Satellite Communications System and Wideband Global SATCOM system certifications.
Harris expects to deliver one terminal per month to the Army over the next four years under the MET program.
