Siemens and Green Energy Options have collaborated to develop an integrated platform for smart metering system installations at high-rise and multiple dwelling units.
The alliance seeks to provide a single communications infrastructure for electric and gas meters, data exchange hubs and home energy monitors, Siemens and GEO said Friday in a joint statement.
According to the firms, the technology is slated to undergo field testing in the U.K. early next year.
Jon Turner, head of business development at Siemens’ metering, communications and services business, said the company aims for the shared infrastructure to address energy and cost issues.
Siemens and GEO’s product makes use of broadband-over-powerline and wireless radio technologies intended to help utilities connect smart meters to a wide area network system.
The firms showcased the platform at last week’s European Utility Week in Amsterdam.
