The Defense Department must share information on weapons technology in order to have open competitions, American Forces Press Service reported Tuesday.
Amaani Lyle writes Stephen Welby, deputy assistant defense secretary of defense for systems engineering, told Defense Daily’s Open Architecture Summit that standard-based parts and open platforms will be key for advancing technology for the military.
“We should be thinking about open architecture as the means to produce new capabilities and to address agility against emerging threats and…to expand and fill in the gaps,” Welby said, according to AFPS.
More than 99,000 civilian and uniformed engineers work for the Pentagon, the report said.
