Battelle will work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to identify war veterans diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries through surveys in an effort to further develop treatment methods and healthcare services.
The nonprofit organization will help the VA’s Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research assess veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq under the five-year contract, Battelle said Tuesday.
Sudip Parikh, Battelle health and analytics general manager, said the company intends to help the VA achieve its scientific goals and build up veteran healthcare by working with that agency’s teams to form mail and web surveys for two studies.
One project is intended to find out how to better treat veterans with traumatic brain injuries and help use research data for work to develop policies.
The second study’s goal is to determine persistent syndromes and associated demographics, factors and costs related to each syndrome and to monitor symptoms in order to match treatments and patients.
The VA intends for the research findings to identify intervention strategies for syndrome treatment.
