Big data technology is moving beyond providing the basic infrastructure to become the next version of itself, according to Gagan Mehra, Terracotta chief evangelist at Software AG.
Mehra noted this evolution is presenting speed, data quality and applications as the top elements enterprises now need to consider when shopping for the right vendor.
Mehra noted in a VentureBeat guest posting Saturday that the race to process and analyze data the fastest has begun, a trend that could only bode well for the exponential growth of data.
“A single stream of bad data can act as a virus and result in incorrect decisions or heavy financial loss,” Mehra said.
Applications will be an invaluable tool to make sure the enterprise knows how best to use big data to his business’ advantage, he said.
“Over the next few years, we will see thousands of specialized applications launched for various industry verticals to solve big data challenges,” Mehra said.
“In the near future, even a small business will be able to benefit from analyzing big data without requiring special infrastructure or hiring data scientists.”
