A General Electric subsidiary and ikeGPS have partnered to create a mobile platform for utilities to locate and measure joint-use electric poles or other assets deployed in the field.
GE Digital Energy combined its utility management software with ikeGPS’ handheld geospatial technology and will offer the integrated product under the brand name MapSight, GE Digital Energy said Thursday.
MapSight is built to collect field data such as wire height and diameter, attachment points and clearances.
Bryan Friehauf, software solutions product line leader at GE Digital Energy, said the business intends for utility customers to digitally manage asset information by using the device.
The product is built with a laser, camera and GPS technology and is designed to integrate with GE utility applications such as SmallWorld Electric Office and FieldSmart.
