Inmarsat has selected satellite services provider Globecomm as an value added reseller of Inmarsat’s Ka-band broadband satellite network to government customers in Africa and the Middle East.
Global Xpress is built to integrate with Inmarsat’s L-band network for land, maritime and aero terminal customers to use GX’s bandwidth services through a secure mobile waveform, Inmarsat said Monday.
Andy Start, president of Inmarsat Global Government, said the agreement is aimed at growing the market presence of GX in those emerging economies.
Keith Hall, chief operating officer at Globecomm, said the company added GX to its portfolio in order to grow its revenue.
Globecomm designs satellite communication systems for government and military applications.
The first Global Xpress satellite is slated for launch on Dec. 8 and is scheduled to achieve global coverage by the end of 2014.
