The article, citing various sources, says advances from federal IT have and will push future innovation toward counteracting ever-growing threats from cyberspace.
It noted a recent Gartner forecast that one in four government business services will have adapted a security-enabled public cloud offering by 2017.
For Kevin Watkins, co-founder of risk management service Appthority, government standards are already having an impact on application and software use.
The phenomenon is a move toward what ZDNet contributor Larry Seltzer termed “responsible management.”
“Regulatory standards in healthcare, finance and government around private data and mobile apps may make it so that IT departments will have to enforce security measures on employees’ mobile devices, rather than simply setting policy and informing employees of their company’s mobile security policies,” ZDNet quoted Watkins as saying.
“Thus, there will be more real-time evaluation and approval of apps on BYOD and company-issued devices,” he added.
