Two Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky Aircraft-built military helicopters have been delivered to the Royal Australian Navy during an acceptance ceremony at Lockheed’s Owego, N.Y., facility Tuesday.
The U.S. Navy and Australian Defence Force entered into an agreement to deploy 24 MH-60 Romeo helicopters before the end of 2016, Lockheed said Tuesday.
“We are honored to partner with the U.S. Navy and the Royal Australian Navy to deliver these capabilities,” Dan Spoor, vice president of aviation systems at Lockheed Martin.
Spoor added the MH-60R helicopters are designed to carry all sensor and systems required for anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare.
Sikorsky manufactured the MH-60R and Lockheed integrated the mission sensors and systems into the chopper.
The MH-60R is also designed for vertical replenishment, personnel transport, search and rescue, communication relay, naval surface fire and logistics support.
