VMware and network security provider Fortinet have demonstrated a security policy proof of concept for protecting traffic flow across virtual networks at the hypervisor level.
That concept works to display traffic traversing a VMware virtual environment that focuses on communications security implementation across physical and logical workloads, Fortinet said Thursday.
Milin Desai, director of product management at VMware, said the collaboration is intended to help businesses manage operations and virtualize networks.
The companies intend for customers to use VMware NSX to virtualize networks and insert security controls before the traffic flows through the virtual network.
The FortiGate virtual appliances and virtual domains are built to help secure virtual infrastructures and monitor communications within virtualized environments.
Those virtual appliances are designed to run on VMware, Citrix and open source Xen and work to segregate networks into multi-tenant domains for customers.
Other appliances with hardware counterparts are FortiManager, FortiMail, FortiAnalyzer, FortiWeb, FortiAuthenticator, FortiADC, FortiCache and FortiScan.
