Kevin Kelly, CEO of LGS Innovations LLC, was recently interviewed in a National Defense Magazine article where he spoke about the necessity of attracting new business opportunities besides traditional Defense Department work.
Sandra Erwin writes that many companies see a stagnant military market and are turning to opportunities such as a nationwide network for emergency responders.
“The defense market has been a challenge,” Kelly said.
“We have grown our defense sales over the past few years. … There is still strong demand for networking technologies, but it’s difficult,” he added.
The First Responder Network Authority will be responsible for providing public safety, law enforcement agencies and National Guard units with a high-speed nationwide network.
Kelly says the program will move forward this year but there are still many issues to sort through.
“The automatic budget cuts known as the sequester and last year’s government shutdown created an “extraordinarily difficult” environment for federal technology contractors,” Kelly added.
