Ed MorcheLevel 3 Communications has predicted the technology trends the federal government will likely face in 2014 amid growing requirements for data and communications information management.

Government technology leaders will need to take into consideration the demands for security, collaboration, mobility and business continuity when making decisions, Level 3 said Thursday in a blog post.

Edward Morche, senior vice president of east region enterprise and government markets at Level 3, writes that the government will outsource the network platform needed to collect, analyze and store large volumes of data in a secure environment.

Level 3 communicationsGovernment agencies must alter their network structure and reconsider information technology investments in order to meet demands for monitoring communications and information access, he said in the blog post.

The government is also expected to continue implementing public cloud services and adopt the network-as-a-service infrastructure for procuring and managing IT services.

Morche writes 2014 will see new policy changes and proposals that are intended to counter  cybersecurity threats.
