Northrop Grumman seeks to offer its drones to Singapore’s government as the company aims to further increase its international sales reach, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
Jeffrey Ng writes Northrop believes its unmanned aircraft platforms could help Singapore monitor aerial and maritime activities along the Strait of Malacca, where more than 70,000 vessels sail through every year.
“The need to be able to have very long range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to monitor all that traffic … suggests that (Singapore) needs a … system that could stay up in the air for a very long period of time and cover a very large ocean area,” David Perry, chief global business development officer at Northrop, said at the Singapore Airshow.
Northrop also aims to land Global Hawk sales contracts with South Korea, Japan and Australia, according to the report.
The U.S. Navy is testing Northrop’s Triton UAV, which features a 360-degree radar system and infrared sensors, Ng writes.
