Sterling Global Operations worked with seismic surveying company Terraseis to remove mines and unexploded bombs from a 154-square-mile land in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
The de-mining effort was executed to allow for oil and gas exploration in that area situated near the Iraq-Iran boundary, SGO said Wednesday.
“In the 1980s Iraq fought an eight-year war with Iran, and since 1991 the U.S. and its coalition partners have conducted Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom,â€Â said Matt Kaye, SGO CEO.
“That means high potential for unexploded ordnance in this area, and for the safety of its teams Terraseis chose SGO to find and remove those threats,†he added.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates-based Terraseis offers land data acquisition services to petroleum exploration and production businesses in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
SGO works with organizations to execute intelligence, munitions response, logistics and security operations in austere and hostile locations.
