Eaton logoEaton Corp. has introduced a microgrid management system for military forward operating bases to convert individual power generators into a demand-based microgid.

The Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System is designed to manage generator output, supply power and shift demand onto auxiliary generators, Eaton said Thursday.

John Stampfel, vice president and general manager of electrical engineering services and systems division at Eaton, said the microgrid management system is intended to help the military reduce risks associated with using and storing fuel.

Eaton-built the demand-managed system to work with generator manufacturers and to be adapted with solar and energy storage connectivity.

The system was tested at U.S. military base Fort Devens and demonstrated a more than 30-percent fuel consumption reduction for forward operating base, Eaton said.
