A joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky Aircraft has started construction work on a complex that will house maintenance work on the Australian navy’s fleet of 24 MH-60R maritime helicopters.

The Maritime Helicopter Support Company broke ground on the new maintenance and warehouse facilities and expects construction to finish in early 2015,  the company announced Wednesday.

Representatives from Brisbane-based Sikorsky Helitech, Lockheed Martin Australia and General Electric will also work out of the Through Life Support complex.

Based near Naval Air Station Nowra, the complex will host an 89,000-square-foot maintenance repair operation facility and a 33,000-square-foot warehouse.

More than 120 personnel will work at the complex to maintain the helicopters, which are built to have a 30-year lifespan.
