Battelle REBSBattelle has begun production of a chemical and biological hazard sensor system for federal biodefense programs and commercial industry applications, with self-contained capabilities designed to limit operating costs and time to identify threats.

The company said Monday the Resource Effective BioIdentification System is equipped with aerosol collection, optical spectroscopy capabilities and Internet connectivity.

“Our warfighters, first responders, security personnel, and many in industry, need an affordable, reliable, high tech detection system capable of identifying new biological and chemical materials quickly, no matter the environment,” said Matthew Shaw, vice president and general manager of Battelle’s CBRNE Defense unit.

According to Battelle, the battery-operated REBS can preserve and archive samples for integration with biosurveillance operations at large and can be operated and monitored through the Internet.
