A Deltek study says approximately 1,100 contractors have exited or are scheduled to leave the Small Business Administration‘s 8(a) business development program in fiscal year 2014, the Washington Post reported April 14.
Kathleen Sievers, a Deltek research manager, writes that those companies hold almost $5 billion in combined set-aside task order contracts that will expire in fiscal 2015 or fiscal 2016.
The Army and NASAÂ respectively accounted for $785 million (16 percent) and $749 million (15 percent) of contracts that are expiring within the next two fiscal years, the report states.
Contractors based in Washington, Maryland and Virginia account for one-half of disclosed federal spending on those contracts, according to Sievers.
Sievers adds that one-third of the expiring 8(a) contracts cover administrative, professional and management support services.
