A model of a three-dimensional navigation technology built by Google will support NASA‘s floating service robots at the International Space Station, EE Times reported Monday.
Kevin Fogarty writes that Project Tango is an offshoot of Google’s modular phone project that features a vision processor, depth sensor and a motion-tracking camera.
According to the report, NASA will use Tango to operate the agency’s Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites robots.
The agency intends to use the prototype’s three-dimensional mapping tool to guide SPHERES robots in testing self-piloting systems, propulsion, control and navigation functions.
