HuntinMike Petters, Huntington Ingalls - ExecutiveMosaicgton Ingalls Industries President and CEO Mike Petters was awarded the Rear Admiral John J. Bergen Leadership in Industry Award on Tuesday by the Navy League of the United States New York Council.

The award was given to Petters to honor his leadership of HII and the company’s designing and building of ships for the U.S. Navy, Huntington Ingalls said Wednesday.

Petters has led the company as president and CEO since March 31, 2011, when the business formerly known as Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding began operating as HII after spinning off from Northrop Grumman.

Prior to his current role, Petters served as president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and as president of Northrop Grumman’s Newport News sector.

Petters earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1982, served aboard the nuclear-powered submarine USS George Bancroft (SSBN 643) and spent five years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
