satellite airforceBoeing has received an order from Intelsat for the ninth Epic Next Generation satellite.

Boeing develops the 35e EpicNG satellite based on its 702 medium power platform, Boeing said Tuesday.

Thierry Guillemin, Intelsat executive vice president and chief technical officer, said the company aims for the satellite-based infrastructure to meet customer demands for commercial plane bandwidth and television signals.

Boeing designs the EpicNG satellites for applications in wireless and fixed telecommunications, enterprise, mobility, video and government applications.

“As Intelsat celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding this year, we’re pleased to continue our collaboration with the building of the newest satellite, IS-35e,” said Craig Cooning, president of Boeing Network & Space Systems.
