Boeing has chosen aerospace engineering firm Dynetics to provide a thrust vector control exhaust gas heat exchanger and three structural simulators for the NASA Space Launch System program.

Dynetics said Wednesday it will manufacture the flight hardware and simulation platforms for the SLS core stage at its Huntsville, Alabama facility, and then deliver the systems to Boeing at the space agency’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans.

Boeing is responsible for building the heavy-lift rocket’s avionics and cryogenic engines as the SLS prime contractor.

“This is a great step toward our two companies partnering together to support NASA’s exploration program,” said David King, president of Dynetics.

In 2012, NASA awarded a contract to Dynetics to perform risk reduction and engineering work on the SLS advanced booster system.

The company has also developed a cryogenic fuel tank and is set to test the  storage at a facility in Iuka, Mississippi.
