WoolpertWoolpert has won a potential 10-year contract to provide geospatial surveying and three-dimensional modeling services to the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

Atlanta’s public transit agency wants the company to produce 3D models of the agency’s existing facilities, topography, utilities and 48-mile rail line, Woolpert said Sept. 15.

The company says it will leverage a GPS, digital modeling technology, and terrestrial and aerial laser scanning platforms to accomplish the work.

Chris Chalmers, senior project manager at Woolpert, said geospatial data to be collected through the project is intended to help MARTA manage its assets and plan future upgrades.

The contract has six base years and an option to extend services up to 10 years.

MARTA operates rail, bus and paratransit services between the counties of Fulton and DeKalb.
