DeltekFederal agencies have consistently purchased engineering and technical services, IT and telecom services and automatic data processing software the most during the fourth quarters of the past five fiscal years, reports Deltek‘s John Slye.

Slye writes Tuesday that this trend is based on contract records in the Federal Procurement Data System, which show that agencies have allotted their remaining budgets on the same IT services and products between fiscal years 2009 and fiscal 2013.

“Savvy federal business development and capture folks know this and will be well-prepared to respond to the demand,” he says.

Slye notes that the fourth quarter is considered the “federal busy season” as FPDS data indicates a ramp-up of spending during this period, particularly in September when federal IT procurement averages $17 billion.

He has previously identified USAID and the State Department as the regular top government spenders on IT for this month.

Other IT services and products agencies consistently procure in the fourth quarter include IT strategy and architecture services, systems engineering services and miscellaneous communications equipment.
