Hughes-logo EbizHughes Network Systems will release its latest portable BGAN terminal model in November.

Graham Avis, vice president and general manager of Hughes San Diego, said Sept. 9 that the addition of the Hughes 9211-HDR to the BGAN terminal portfolio was precipitated by positive customer response toward an earlier model, the Hughes 9201.

The new terminal features upgrades from its predecessor in the areas of speed, size, weight and capabilities, he added.

The company indicated that it designed the Hughes 9211-HDR portable terminal to complement Inmarsat‘s BGAN HDR service during mission-critical activities that require mobile satellite connection.

These could include media organizations, first responders, relief and mobile healthcare workers, and government agencies that rely on fast uplinks to communicate reports from the ground.

“Many journalists know and love the Hughes 9201 and the 9211-HDR is a worthy successor,” said Martin Turner, director for Inmarsat Media, adding, “Its size and weight make it ideal for getting to where the story is happening and for taking advantage of the speeds—and the video quality—that BGAN HDR enables.”

Hughes said the terminal has a built-in RJ11 port, provides multiuser access to Wi-Fi and is fitted with a connector for active-type external antenna.
