Jim Gildea and Charles Neff of Huntington Ingalls Industries have received recognition from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for assisting employees with their military commitment.

Gildea, vice president and chief counsel of HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division, and Neff, HII senior staff counsel, were nominated for the Patriot Awards by Leila Garcia, an NNS paralegal whose flexible schedule granted by both provided her time to serve both HII and the Virginia Air National Guard, HII said Thursday.

Bill Bell, vice president of human resources and administration at NNS, acknowledged Garcia’s efforts to ensure the recognition of her superiors’ support.

“It speaks to Leila’s character and commitment that she has taken the time to nominate her leadership team for their support,” Bell said.

“Jim and Charles working with her schedule is a reminder of the company’s commitment to those serving our country,” he added.

ESGR operates under the Defense Department with close to 5,000 volunteers across all 50 states.

Darry L. Bradley Jr., peninsula area chairman of ESGR’s Virginia committee, was on hand at the awards ceremony last week.
