GeocodingEsri and the U.S. Navy‘s Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command have entered into a cooperative agreement to research and develop geospatial tools for analyzing battlespace environmental conditions at sea.

The partnership aims to create new applications that could enhance Esri’s geographic information systems platform as well as improve geospatial intelligence collection during naval warfare, the Navy said Tuesday.

NAVMETOCCOM has used Esri’s GIS software for more than a decade, according to the Navy.

“This CRADA will be a key enabler for our mission and top priority — providing unmatched battlespace awareness and environmental information to the warfighters that yield better decisions made faster than the adversary,” said Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, head of NAVMETOCCOM.

The organization also seeks to help commanders to better analyze weather and ocean data for operational decision-making through the use of technology.

Esri’s technology is used by more than 50 U.S. Naval organizations to manage geospatial data and make decisions, according to the branch.
