electronic health record EHRToshiba Group has partnered with Johns Hopkins University to establish a research facility that aims to leverage big data to analyze medical conditions and improve patient care.

The Toshiba Center for Big Data in Healthcare is located at the Johns Hopkins Science + Technology Park in Baltimore and seeks to identify potential treatments for patients with neck and lung cancer, Toshiba said Monday.

“With our collaboration at Johns Hopkins, we hope to create a new paradigm in medicine that transforms healthcare into a more efficient, cost-effective and data-driven enterprise that will help to improve patient outcomes,” said Rich Mather, clinical programs director at Toshiba Medical Research Institute.

Both organizations plan to combine their data analytics and mining platforms to build new technologies to help clinicians manage a patient’s health.

Toshiba says the center will use big data to compare medical outcomes among patients who have physiological, anatomical and pathological similarities.
