partnershipCharles River Analytics and Passport Systems will support the Radiation Awareness and Interdiction Network Advanced Technology Demonstration program of the Department of Homeland Security‘s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office under a potential $6.9 million contract.

DHS/DNDO awarded Passport Systems the contract on the program’s preliminary design phase through February 2015, the companies said Wednesday.

Rich Wronski, vice president of Charles River Analytics’ sensor processing and networking division, said the company will utilize its VisionKit video analytics tool to help partner Passport Systems design, build and test a radiation detection portal system.

The team will also combine Charles River Analytics’ object detection and tracking tools with Passport Systems’ radiation detection and identification technology and data fusion offerings.

They said they will design the system to monitor roads for vehicle-borne sources of radiation and isolate those suspect vehicles from the rest of traffic.
