DigitalGlobe and Exelis‘ Visual Information Solutions subsidiary co-hosted a Google Hangout Thursday to discuss the role of remote sensing, satellite imagery and cloud technologies could address environmental issues.
DigitalGlobe said Thursday that Kumar Navulur and Bill Baugh from its strategic business development and advanced geospatial products sectors, respectively, discussed how these technologies helped both mitigate and assess the impact of environmental problems.
They cited California’s dust pollution, Chile’s toxic mine drainage and Syria’s agriculture industry amid civil conflict as real-world situations where remote sensing tools aided the response to the problem.
Rebecca Lasica and Beau Legeer of Exelis VIS also participated in the discussion.
Legeer said these technologies present both challenges and opportunities for the industry as huge volumes of data become available for public consumption and also help facilitate problem-solving.
