leidos_purpleLeidos has concluded a 42-day test of its maritime autonomy system under the Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel program for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

The company said Tuesday it equipped a surrogate vessel with the autonomy software and associated sensors to perform maneuvers and ACTUV mission functions to evaluate its compliance with the International Maritime Organization’s collision regulations.

Leidos conducted at-sea tests and simulation runs to demonstrate how the ACTUV surrogate works to avoid a collision with an interfering vessel in different transit scenarios.

These included 101 scenarios in which Leidos’ maritime autonomy system worked to control the speed and course of the surrogate vessel, the company said.

ACTUV will move forward to follow-on tests that will use multiple interfering vessels to demonstrate hostile behavior.

The first ACTUV, Sea Hunter, is currently under construction at Christensen Shipyard in Oregon through mid-2015.
