general-dynamics-logo2A General Dynamics subsidiary has received a $36.5 million contract modification to research and develop technologies for the U.S. Navy‘s existing and future submarines.

Electric Boat will perform R&D work in technology areas such as hydrodynamics, acoustics, ship control and weapons handling, General Dynamics said Friday.

Work also covers near-term technology support services for the branch’s Virginia-class attack submarine platforms.

The modification falls under a potential five-year, $710.6 million contract that Electric Boat was awarded in November 2010.
