ITIridium Communications and software firm Appareo Systems have signed a partnership agreement to develop telematics and data connectivity platforms for agricultural and aviation applications.

Appareo wants to leverage Iridium’s satellite network to help customers stay connected in areas not covered by conventional terrestrial networks, Iridium said Wednesday.

Iridium is scheduled to launch its NEXT satellite communications program this year with the goal of providing users with higher bandwidth capacity and data transmission speed.

Appareo also seeks to integrate the Iridium-made 9603 satellite data receiver chipset into Appareo’s technology offerings for the aviation, fleet, construction, forestry and mining sectors.
