MH60R-helicopterLockheed Martin and Sikorsky Aircraft’s joint venture is discussing a follow-on contract with the U.S. Navy to maintain the service’s H-60 helicopter fleet, Washington Business Journal reported Monday.

Jill Aitoro writes the Maritime Helicopter Support Co. works to repair, modify and procure more than 1,700 airframe and avionics parts for the H-60 series aircraft under the existing contract.

The company has invested $140 million in components and products modernization to shorten the logistics response time, according to the report.

MHSCo also wants to chase maintenance works for presidential helicopters in the future, the report says.

Rod Skotty, president of MHSCo, told a media briefing the company is planning to apply its “model to any large platform where sustainment challenges exist,” Aitoro reports.

Skotty said the Navy’s fleet of P-3 Orion surveillance aircraft is also among the platforms MHSCo is seeking to sustain with the company’s concept, the Business Journal reports.
