Navy radarLockheed Martin has ordered radar systems from Northrop Grumman for Lockheed’s project to upgrade Taiwan’s fleet of F-16 fighter jets.

Northrop is scheduled to deliver the first lot of 142 APG-83 beam radars to Lockheed in 2016, Northrop said Monday.

The fire control radar is designed to provide air-to-air and air-to-ground radar functions to F-16 planes.

Jeff Leavitt, vice president of combat avionics systems business unit at Northrop Grumman, said the company completed the radar system a year after the contract award.

Aircraft pilots will have situational awareness, targeting and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data with the radar, Northrop says.
