Navy radarNorthrop Grumman has selected a U.S.-based Saab subsidiary to provide components for the AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar system of the U.S. Marine Corps for a $32 million subcontract.

Saab Defense and Security USA will develop subsystems, software and assemblies for the first four G/ATOR units under the low-rate initial production contract, the company said Thursday.

“We are proud to be a part of this important next generation radar program for the U.S. Marine Corps and look forward to our continued collaboration with Northrop Grumman,” said Micael Johansson, head of Saab’s electronic defense system business.

Saab said Northrop will integrate the assemblies with Lot 1 G/ATOR systems, which are scheduled for delivery to the Marines beginning 2016.

The Defense Department-developed G/ATOR is an active electronically scanned array radar that works to support air surveillance and defense, air traffic control and ground weapon locating missions.
