army-vehicleGeneral Dynamics‘ Canadian land systems business has awarded DRS Technologies an eight-year, $100 million contract to produce surveillance radars for installation on Canada’s light armored vehicles.

DRS will build long-range, mast mounted surveillance systems and operator control stations under the Canadian army’s Light Armored Vehicle–Reconnaissance Surveillance System development initiative, DRS said Tuesday.

The company partnered with Thales Canada to develop the Surveillance and Battlefield Reconnaissance Equipment offering for the LRSS program.

SABRE is comprised of radar, thermal imaging and laser technologies and designed to connect with battle command networks.

DRS aims for the system to provide forward observers, scouts and tactical air controllers with an extended range coverage of targets.
