Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin has received a one-year, $23 million extension to its cargo mission contract with NASA to provide cargo planning, processing and shipping services for missions to the International Space Station.

The company said Monday it will continue to support the preparation of cargo such as science hardware, experiments, food and personal items to be sent to ISS crew.

Lockheed noted that the award is the second of four options to extend its services beyond the original contract award in December 2010.

According to the company, it provides warehouse and maintenance services for at least 3 million ISS-bound items and transports an estimated 25,000 pounds of cargo per year to domestic and international launch sites.
