Tony Moraco, CEO of Science Applications International Corp., has described his strategy for the first year and a half of the firm’s independent operations from parent company Leidos, the Washington Business Journal reported Monday.

Jill Aitoro writes that Moraco told attendees of the publication’s first Power Breakfast event that particular care was needed in making business decisions or moves that could be too risky.

“You have the options. You just have to be selective and use the collective judgment of the team to do the right thing at the right time,” Moraco said.

The SAIC chief executive, an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2015, indicated that the brand’s familiarity helped establish the spinoff, while changes in the organization’s structure and business model focused on streamlining operations and removing silos.

SAIC is now making “bolder” moves in its second year with the ongoing $790 million acquisition of Scitor Corp. alongside the unveiling of the new “Redefining Ingenuity” tagline, the report said.
