Washington DCThe District of Columbia’s Department of General Services has partnered with BuildingIQ to implement a cloud-based energy management technology at eight public facilities within the capital.

BuildingIQ will deliver its Predictive Energy Optimization platform to DGS-managed hospitals, schools and offices with the goal of helping the establishments save energy and cut greenhouse gas emissions, DGS said May 8.

The project is being funded through a U.S. Energy Department grant program.

BuildingIQ’s PEO technology employs a custom thermal model designed to predict a facility’s energy cost, usage and comfort based on factors such as building characteristics, weather information and utility signals.

According to DGS, the cloud-based system will work to automatically adjust operational parameters for heating, ventilation and air condition equipment in the eight buildings.

BuildingIQ will also collaborate with New City Energy and DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to help the D.C. government save as much as $600,000 annually through the initiative.
