A new report from Forbes Insights and Microsoft predicts a surge in the adoption of cloud-based technologies among government agencies driven by scalability and potential cost savings.
Forbes said Thursday the report titled From Promise to Reality: How Local, State and Federal Government Agencies Achieve Results in the Cloud shows familiarity with the technology, accreditation and the desire to improve public services are some of the factors that would encourage agencies to consider cloud technologies.
“Initial concerns around moving to the cloud are being countered by real-world government success stories,” said Curt Kolcun, vice president of the U.S. public sector at Microsoft.
“As for data security, government agencies across federal, state and local are learning that the cloud can address their deepest concerns and mission-critical needs.”
The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, the Internal Revenue Service and FBI are among the government bodies that evaluate data security methods and grant accreditation to cloud providers, according to the report.
