Small Tactical TerminalHarris Corp. and ViaSat will increase production of the Small Tactical Terminal for U.S. soldiers under a one-year, $10 million follow-on contract, bringing the total deal value to at least $25 million since the original award in 2010.

Harris said Monday it co-developed the product with ViaSat to provide soldiers access to tactical communications using a compact and interoperable radio terminal.

Ed Zoiss, vice president and general manager of defense programs at Harris’ government communications systems division, said STT combines ViaSat’s use of Link 16 terminals and Harris’ Software Communications Architecture.

STT also works to bolster situational awareness and command-and-control functions, and leverages the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform, the Soldier Radio Waveform and other VHF/UHF radio technologies, Harris added.
