Orbital ATKOrbital ATK has received Milestone C approval for its FMU-167/B Hard Target Void Sensing Fuze to enter into low-rate initial production as part of the program’s completion of the engineering and manufacturing development phase.

The company said Wednesday the approval moves the technology into production and deployment as it aims to deliver multiple-delay arming, void sensing and precision activation capabilities.

Orbital ATK noted that it expects the U.S. Air Force to award the LRIP contract in the coming weeks.

The HTVSF has sensor and electronics technology that works to support air-delivered penetrating weapons and enable the destruction of hardened targets, the company said.
