120509-N-KQ416-056The U.S. government could soon sell as many as 40 of Boeing‘s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighter jets to Kuwait as production of the aircraft for the U.S. Navy and Australia nears its end in 2017, Defense News reported Wednesday.

Christopher Cavas writes the deal could be worth at least $3 billion.

Defense News reports the House Armed Services Committee allotted $1.2 billion in its markup of the 2016 defense authorization bill for the 12 Super Hornet jets the Navy included with the 2016 unfunded requirements.

“[The] combination of a major sale along with funding for the 12 Super Hornets in the Navy’s unfunded requirements list would allow us to continue producing jets without a break in the line,” Boeing spokesperson Caroline Hutcheson told Defense News.
