General Dynamics EbizGeneral Dynamics NASSCO has kicked off construction of the second ECO tanker for American Petroleum Tankers at the company’s San Diego, California-based shipyard.

Toni Atkins, speaker for the California State Assembly, hosted the keel-laying ceremony for the Magnolia State tanker and marked her initials onto a steel plate of the keel, General Dynamics said Monday.

Kevin Graney, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics NASSCO, said the keel-laying ceremony marks the progression of NASSCO’s work to design, build and deliver the ship for the client.

The ECO tanker is the second of five LNG conversion-ready tankers for APT.

Designed by a Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering subsidiary, the 610-foot-long tankers feature a ballast water treatment system.
