general-dynamics-logo2A subsidiary of General Dynamics has begun construction of the second product tanker for SEA-Vista Newbuild III, which will support the transportation of crude oil and refined products.

General Dynamics NASSCO said Thursday the tanker, which has a 330,000-barrel cargo capacity and deadweight of 50,000 tons, is based on the ECO MR Tanker design of South Korea’s DSEC.

Kevin Graney, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics NASSCO, said all three tankers under contract with SEA-Vista meet Jones Act requirements on economic and environmental factors.

A start-of-construction ceremony was held at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego and was led by Debora Burke, senior director for human resources at General Dynamics NASSCO.

The company said the 610-foot-long tanker features conversion-capable and dual-fuel-capable auxiliary engines as well as other components and functions that facilitate fuel efficiency.
