turbine aircraftAirbus and Lockheed Martin have been selected to update eight of the German navy’s warfare airplanes.

The companies will perform re-winging services on the P-3C Orion maritime patrol and anti-submarine fleet under an eight-year contract, Airbus said Wednesday.

“Once installed, these new wings will extend the life of each German Navy P-3 by 15,000 hours per aircraft, which will allow the German Navy fleet to meet future mission requirements,” said Mark Jarvis, director of P-3 programs at Lockheed.

The companies will also produce outer wing, centre fuselage, and horizontal stabilizer in Marietta, Georgia, and other locations in the United States.

Airbus will work to integrate and install the MLU-K15 kits for the P-3C Orion aircraft in Manching, Germany.
