Megan Smith, U.S. chief technology officer since September 2014, will receive the New York State Society of Washington D.C.‘s “Charging Buffalo” award at the organization’s Buffalo Nite event Sept. 16 in Washington.
The nonprofit organization gives the award to city natives or those it deems “friends of Buffalo” in recognition of their career achievements and connection between the Western New York and Washington metropolitan regions.
As federal CTO, Smith advises the president on ways the government can apply technology policy, data and innovation efforts on behalf of U.S. citizens.
Her technology sector career includes leadership roles at Google, Planet Out, General Magic, Apple Japan and time as CEO of Planet Out.
Founded in 1908, the New York State Society of Washington D.C. offers people from New York State and their friends who live in the Washington area to join others in networking events.
The organization supports other nonprofit entities such as the Honor Flight Network, Toys for Tots, the American Red Cross and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
