CyberStockGary Locke, a former Washington state governor and Commerce Department secretary, has joined the board of directors at network security technology company Fortinet.

The two-decade public service veteran previously served as the U.S. ambassador to China between 2011 and 2014, Fortinet said Monday.

“Gary’s broad experience and knowledge will greatly benefit Fortinet as the company continues to execute its growth strategy and expand its presence in new and existing markets,” said Ken Xie, founder, chairman and CEO of Fortinet.

Locke served two consecutive terms as governor of Washington from 1997 to 2005 and led the Commerce Department from 2009 to 2011.
