research-and-development-RDNorthrop Grumman’s electronic systems sector has received a potential four-year, $8.5 million contract to perform research and development work for the U.S. Air Force’s Advanced Staring Infrared Search and Track Technologies program.

The Air Force Research Laboratory awarded the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract through a competitive procurement process with nine proposals received, the Defense Department said Thursday.

The ASISTT initiative seeks to design and develop technological platforms that could be used to support the development of a staring system-based, aerial infrared search and track system designed to detect and monitor airborne targets at long ranges.

Work will occur in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, through Sept. 25, 2019.

The service branch will obligate $1.3 million from fiscal 2015 research, test, evaluation and development funds at the time of award.
